You have to learn how to walk before you run.....

Go slow and get used to the boat you wont need to trim up much untill you have several hours under the belt. Know where you are running at and the dangers of things in and under the water.

Take a boating safety class - online if you can

Slow down to turn, let the boat tell you what it likes and don't like. If it feels dangerous it probable is. I don't think you could flip it backwards even if you tried.

Just slow down and trim down when turning. And ALWAYS wear your kill switch lanyard attached to your PFD. You can get in trouble. Don't ask me how I know this. Take it easy and you will be fine.

all good advice given. onr thing not mentioned.......be aware of your surroundings! reservoirs go through drawdowns, and submerged hazrds can be a BIG problem. be aware of sunken islands , and trees that may be poking out just below the surface. trimming the motor up and down will come with time on the water. but never underestimate those rollers! just like on the road, drive with the conditions.

Remember, a boat doesn't stop like a car does. You don't have any brakes on a boat. If something doesn't look right, use caution and slow down. I have hit a few waves that I wish I would have slowed down for instead.

And not just waves! Slow down about 2 or 3 times sooner than you think you need to until you get used to your boat and the speed that you are at when you pull the throttle back

I didn't finish my thought. I meant to say when you are approaching a dock, the shore, another boat etc.
