Drat! Changed the stator, the flywheel is a pain to get off, and it still tops out at 2K. Unless I get some good ides by Tuesday that don't require parts, into the shop she goes.

I had an Evinrude that had a similar problem. It turned out to be something under the flywheel that had to do with timing.
The trigger? I checked it when we had the stator out, all resistances are in spec.
