    Just Upgraded a 250 EFI

We just did my buddy's 250 EFI on his Champion 206

    Simon Cut Flywheel
    Simon Mapped ECU
    Simon Poppet Valve

    Hydrotech Tuner
    Hydrotech Injector Flow
    Hydrotech Carbon Fiber Reeds

Now it was a little Pricey but so far it went from a best of 70.3 MPH.............to 73.6 with the same 25 Trophy Plus and the holeshot and mid range was a HUGE difference. It seemed to be slowly climbing still but the seal blew on the gearcase and broke the driveshaft So now we are putting on another T.Master for some testing. The Tach was acting up as well so we have no numbers for RPM yet, it is also in the process of getting all new Livorsi Gauges so I will post numbers and pic when finished.

Once you get it all back together.... and have it dialed in well, it would be interesting to see a comparison of $$$ spent /vs/ speed gained (i.e. X-$$ = 1MPH).

Quick question. Are we talking an upgraded "standard" 250 efi or Pro XB 250 EFI? Curious about the baseline? Thanks.

250 EFI, the XB doesn't have the downdraft intake, the 250 EFI has the intake like a 300X

In other words, this is a Later Design 250 EFI, single-shutter throttle with down-draft intake plenum (and 555 or "triple-nickle" ECM).

Having said all of the subtle differences, are we talking the XB or standard EFI? Thanks.

Perhaps, I should have worded my question differently. Is the referenced 250 , a standard 250 or HI PO 250 XB? Just trying to put a handle on the upgrades to what baseline motor? Thanks.

Re: Just Upgraded a 250 EFI (oldgeezer)

The 250xb is a high performance motor that is based off the earlier model 225/250/300pm efi's. They have 2 computers on the back and run the ignition off a stator and as stated above have the opti style intake like found on a 300X.

The 250 efi they have moddified is a fishing motor not a HP version but it is the newer style block and electronics (single motorola ecu, no stator, opti intake......)

The earlier dual box ecu motors were built up to the the middle of the 2001 model year. The newer stlye efi's ran from late model 2001 to 2005 and included a 200/225/250/300X.

The 250 xb is the exception, Merc HP still used the early style block and electronics to build this power house 2001-2003.

    Hope this helps!

Todd D nailed it. It is the EFI fishing motor with alternator and Motorola ECU

Re: Just Upgraded a 250 EFI (TheDuke)

Thanks for all of the motor differentials of which I am "somewhat-probably well versed" and somewhat familiar. Having said that, is the $$$ invested worth the "performance" gained? I ask this since you are probably the "current guru" and am interested in your take? As most of us might know, it takes a lot of $$$ to squeeze out that last HP and possible MPH gain. Having said that, I am an advocate of "realizing" the full potential of the boat/motor/prop combination that will ultmately satisfy the boat owner. Requires a lot of ingunity and contacts, but the "nirvana" MPH and handling is atainable. Good luck to all who will continue the
quest and never be satisified That is what makes all of us "students" as such and experimenters trying to acheive their maximum. Nothing is more boring than fishing in the local fishing tournament and listen to the "excuses" that abound because their boat/motor combo was a deterent. JMHO though. .

In most cases unless your modding a Newer 250 or 300 it is cheaper to sell your current motor and buy a bigger one to get the most performance for the buck.

+1.... and I might add, Todd would know.

I agree, however I was impressed how much this motor woke up on a heavy Champion, and 3 mph was pretty impressive to me with same 25 Trophy Plus, I didn't expect that. The 27 Tempest Plus was a tad slower out of the hole and at WOT. We have a 28 Razor 3 to try next. Holeshot and mid range was the biggest improvement. It sounds awesome too

    Simon's tab was around $800

    Hydrotech was $805

That was just parts, my buddy is a Merc mechanic, we helped him but he did get some cash too. I guess to answer your question Geezer, if you have the cash you can do whatever you want
