Just replaced the fuel filter and now I get this warning. The motor starts and idles, but it has no throttle response. The motor is an 05' 225 Pro XS.
Is there an easy fix or do I have to take it to a tech?
Thanks

Check to ensure that you reconnected the link arm to the throttle position sensor (you would have removed this while replacing the filter).![]()

It's connected. When I step on the hot foot it moves back and forth.
Can you snap a picture that shows the TPS, the cam, and the throttle follower with linkages?
Something MUST be amiss.... unless you physically broke the TPS.
Wondering if you might even have the cam/follower out of sequence....

Here you go. I tried to reinstall it the way it came out.

Thanks for the pictures.
Remove the black "ball-link" arm from the white plastic socket (bottom picture).
Inspect the BACKSIDE of the black arm... it should be keyed to match/index with the TPS. Removal from the ball/socket is required, as the TPS has a return spring that returns it "beyond" the position (counterclockwise) that the arm sits at when mounted.
CAREFULLY index the black arm into the TPS. TPS arm will sit approximately 1/8" further "counterclockwise" when properly indexed (as compared to your top picture).
Place the arm retainer/cover in place.
Remount the TPS, using a small amount of RED LIQUID LOCTITE on the mounting screws.
Rotate TPS arm back and forth. It should "spring return" counterclockwise (on it's own). If it does not- most likely, it's been damaged.
Align the ball/socket joint (TPS arm must be rotated slightly CLOCKWISE to align), and squeeze the ball and socket joint back together.
THROTTLE MUST ALWAYS BE AT IDLE POSITION WHEN KEY TURNED ON, ENGINE STARTED, OR WHILE IN NEUTRAL. ALWAYS!
If your problem persists, you will likely need to replace the TPS.

Thanks Don.
How do I remove the arm from the socket without breaking it?

Take a look at the Red-Capped Fuel Filter replacement instructions (link below).... it explains how to properly disconnect the ball/socket link.![]()

Don,
I had to reassemble the entire TPS unit, and the problem has been solved.
On the back of the sensor itself, there is a plastic cap/plate that I had to snap into place. Will that vibrate loose?
One last question. When I pulled the air handler/fly wheel cover, I pulled the cover off of where I assume the filter should be and found no filter.I think it came from the factory like this.Is there supposed to be a filter in there?
THANKS agian for all of your help!!

There should NOT be a filter in there. And you SHOULD NOT attempt to remove the cover (there's a potential that the blind nuts in the back may fall off).
Regarding the cover on the TPS.... these are SEALED UNITS. If the square BACK of the TPS came off, you will need to REPLACE the TPS. Sooner or later it's going to give problems again....

Hey Don just replaced my fuel filter with proper wrench and did have to undo the TPS linkage. When I went to use boat I received the Fault Sensor, Fault TPS error on Smart Craft Tach. Throttle rpm would not respond when pedal engaged. Seemed like guardian. Beeps were normal two beep start and one after running? Took cowl off and linkage still made up but I recall the backplate of TPS coming apart from front linkage and I reassembled it. Could this linkage moving around while power off or linkage sensor cause this fault?
Mine done the same thing my problem was I forgot to put the linkage back on I put it back on and cleared the codes and everything is good now
TPS, arm, cover, and link arm with ball links must ALL be in place before turning key back on for the first time.
Without the TPS, the engine WILL NOT ACCELERATE (and if the arm is rotated all the way counterclockwise due to being disconnected, a TPS FAULT will be logged).

Don - sounds like I rotated the TPS counterclockwise during its removal. THe front and back separated and I had to snap it back to gether and the linkage must have rotated. I will purchase a new senor as it sounds like they are not supposed to come apart.
How does one clear the codes?
When in idle I noticed motor would not pee immediately on starting ? Does this need to build pressure with acceleration? Dont think its the compressor as nothing sounded a miss.
