Sealing gap where vinyl siding meets brick

I have a walk out basement/garage. Half the house is underground and other side is not. It is brick on lower level and vinyl siding on upper part. They used extra wide starter strip on my vinyl siding and over the years and wind blowing on it it has bent the starter strip out away from the house. I am working on finishing my basement and I kept getting a cold breeze and this is where the air is from. It has pulled away from the brick probably 1/2". Any idea of what I can use to seal up this gap? The only thing I can come up with is silicone but it is too cold for that now. Any ideas?

Silicone is going to be the best idea but in the mean time anything that you can stuff in there like a closed foam backing rod from Home Depot or similar product will cut back on the draft.

anyway to stuff a little fiberglass insulation up there to stop the draft temporarily till it warms back up?

It all depends on the silicone. Read the label of the brand you buy on the what temps it can be used in.
Zialoc silicone can be used in extreme cold to extreme heat temps.

Thanks for the help and ideas guys. I will check into the cold use silicone as I think that as going to be my best bet.

Plumber's putty might also be an option.

Cold temps will not effect a high quality silicone. I suggest GE 100% silicone. I use it daily with temps below -20 C. Warming it inside before you apply it will definitely make it gun easier.

Hmm. Siding doesn't prevent air infiltration. Behind that should be house wrap, like Tyvek, sheething, like 3/8" plywood, and insulation behind that. If the insulation is foam you should not have air infiltration. The remaining possibilities involve the band (or Bond) joist and the plate upon which the joists set, as well as leakage below said plate. Seal that up and it will make no difference how much air gets behind the siding.

Backer rod and SL1 that matches the siding.

fishinok has it correct by using a urethane caulking. Don't use silicone as it will roll up on the edges next to the brick due to moisture transfer, and the caulking will eventually fail. I would also advise to seal the edge of the brick before applying the caulking.
