    closet shelves

Well boys I think Im gonna try and build my own closet shelves here real soon. I got tons of wood working tools, my dad used to do wood working as a hobby, Ive just never tried to do shelving just exterior stuff was all I ever did. How hard is it to make it look good, anybody ever tackled this kinda job before?

Guess it really depends on your OPINION of LOOKING GOOD !!!!
Some people idea would be some 1x2 stips nailed around the wall with a 1x 12 board laid across. Others may be a bit more elaborate than that.

And if done right, I think that looks just fine.
    Especially...in a closet.

Make them in sections. Make a top, bottom and sides then fill in what you want as far as shelving and clothes rods.
All they are is boxes. If you can build a box then you can build what you have pictured.

    Re: closet shelves (haha)

I dont think Im gonna try the slide out draws and doors, thats more fancy than we need really. Im only gonna do two sides not three. I think the closet measures 10 wide and 12 deep so it shouldnt be to hard. I was thinking last night while I was scrapin up the lanolium, or however thats spelled, in the spare bathroom I might try the laundryroom first with some over head storage and see how that goes first. Hopefully this weekend I can check out all of Dads woodworking stuff to see if it still runs. Its been in the storage house for near 15yrs without being used......

I actually think its easier things (wood and tools) aren't as heavy or as big so its easier to work with them.........

go walk around home depot or lowes and first look at the prefab closets to get an idea on shapes to build and then go look around the lumber area and get an idea on the different shapes and sizes all the casings and trim come in........

I would personally would plan on painting everything instead of staining it just to make it that much easier on the building and finishing side, caulk and putty fixes alot

I have just completed my first step in closet he&^ after the closet maid wire stuff all fell down as the previous owners didn't have a single one in a stud anywhere; screwed 1x4's to the sides and back, went with 12" shelves all across the back for 2 rows and installed the closet bars x 2; I can now hang a number of dead animal carcassas in it and it aint goin nowher; phase 2 will include making organizers for the sides for the wifes vast collection of shoes; like I really needed another project
