That's a "tricky" question. The primary differences are in the adapter plate, tuner and driveshaft housing (where the tuner meets the bottom of the housing).
As long as you're changing ALL of the above components.... (or a complete midsection)- your powerhead will drop right on. I'd suggest something 1997 or later, if at all possible (better exhaust tuner flow).![]()

Yes, pretty much ALL 3.0L mids could be utilized.
It's acceptable to use an Opti mid on an EFI, but NOT vise-versa.![]()

All you have to do on an Opti is plug the water hose ports on the port side of the adapter plate.

Eli's mid has a factory solid mount exhaust plate!!

That would be a 250XS exhaust plate, then.... still suitable, though the air pressure dump and compressor strainer port in the adapter plate would need to be plugged.
It would, however, have SUBSTANTIALLY stiffer mounts (solid one-piece adapter plate with mounts cast in).
