    Baseboards,carpet, ironing board.

Is it better to have the base boards inplace or out when the carpet man comes? What kind of gap should i leave between the floor and base board for carpet.
Mama wants a hide away ironing board/fold down, any suggestions on what to get. Going in the laundry room so it has to be a smaller one.

When I was finishing I always found out how thick the carpet pad was & how thick the carpet was. ie short shag, etc. Usually it works if you just cut 1/2" wide pieces of base & use to shim up the base b-4 nailing.Hope this helps some.

Don't forget to take into account the thickness of the tack strip. I always left 3/4" under the baseboard. I think you get a better job if you do it after but it is a PITA to run it after carpet is down IMO.

Go to lowes and buy an ironing board kit. Comes with the cabinet, board, and all mounting hardware. Easiest and cheapest way to do it.

You will need to have your base installed, this helps the carpet stay in place. Check where you are buying the carpet for a height. They will install the tack strip and then lay the padding up to the tack strip. Probably will be 3/8"

I was thinking it needed to be down to help hold the carpet but was not sure, guess i find out the height if she ever decides where were getting it from.

Went online to lowes and found the irioning boards, as many times that i have been in lowes and homedepot i have never seen them, to big of a hurry i guess.

    Thanks guy's.

3/8 is what is always done. Usually the trim guy uses peices of the baseboard he is installing as shims.

Now, what about the tack strips. how far away from the base boards should the inside edge of the strips be? Be glad when this is OVER, FINISHED, DONE.

The place you buy the carpet from will install the tack strip. If you do it yourself keep it 1/2 inch away from the baseboard. Baseboard needs to be 1/2 inch of the floor.
Carpet goes over tack strip and then under the baseboard keeping it held down on the tack.

It's down, finished . Now the fun part putting everything back in place without tearing up the walls. Only half the house left too paint.

We started to go with the hardwood like we have in the livingroom, got to thinking about jumping out of bed in the middle of the night. Told her we need to stay with carpet so there wont be a trip to the hospital. But it sure looks sharp.
