Pesto is basil, olive oil, garlic, parm. cheese (not the stuff from the green can) and pine nuts all blended together. I havent tried making it just b/c of the cost of pine nuts is stupid. Ive heard of folks subing in walnuts though, which would probably be good.

Walnuts work just fine in it.

    Re: Pesto? (cyclone70)

everyone doesnt like basil ,,,,and pesto does NOT mean it has to be basil nor is pine nuts a rule,,,, i steam a bunch of asparagus and saute some fresh spinach and then blend til pureed with olive oil, grated romano cheese , shelled pistachio nuts and garlic serve on hot pasta,,,,,,, i do make basil pesto too though but i DO USE pine nuts when making it with basil and i toast them a little first to release the oils in the nuts
