My bud runs it religiously in his yammie 250OX66 and has had no problems at all and it doesn't smoke at all, and it actually smells good when burning...![]()
Personally, I think it's a great oil......
Sometimes I need my ATV when in my boat and sometimes I need my boat while riding my ATV.
I lost 2 motors due to amsoil (4 stroke). They will never ever get an opportunity to kill another one for me.
They are not TCW3 certified. They don't stand up to heavy loads or high surface speeds. I could go on about other poor quality issues with them, but this one keeps repeating every few months.
Make your own choice.
I have a 2004 Mercury 3.0 liter 225 EFI and I run Mercury premium plus only in it and will continue to do so....![]()

Oil.... shmoil..... and more oil post turmoil.![]()
For questions relating to engine oil, I would recommend that you consult your engine owner's manual, or if you prefer to read online, consult the following post:

4-stroke? I think you're comparing apples to oranges. Amsoil makes some really good stuff and yes, it is TCW3 rated. Check out their website or google it. I used to run Amsoil 2-stroke oil in my dirt bike. Those dirt squirters rev a lot higher than any bass boat.
If it ain\'t broke, don\'t fix it!![]()

Amsoil IS NOT TCW3 certified. Please show me where they have become certified. It is not on their web site. Nor do they advertize it as such.

You can prove it was because of the oil?? How so? Logic would point to a failure in the delivery system. If you knew the oil was indeed the cause, why would you use it again. Again, logic says that's ridiculous.
Straight from the AMSOIL site:![]()
hp Injector Synthetic 2-Cycle Oil (HPI)
Excellent for all outboard motors with a performance emphasis on modern direct fuel injected (DFI) technology. Also recommended for personal watercraft, jet boats, motorcycles, snowmobiles and ATVs. Injector use or 50:1 premix.
NMMA TC-W3, API TC
ÂSuperior performance in DFI outboard motors
ÂReduces piston and combustion chamber deposits
ÂProtects against "ring jacking" common to DFI outboards
ÂLow smoke, low odor product
ÂContains up to 30 percent more additives for "super clean" operation
ÂReduces wear for long engine life
ÂProtects against rust
ÂMulti-functional and recommended for use in many two-cycle motors
ÂLow aquatic toxicity
ÂRecommended for use as injection oil or at a 50:1 pre-mix
hp Injector is a precise synthetic formulation that exceeds the lubrication demands of modern two-cycle motors. TodayÂs two-cycle outboard motors operate at higher temperatures and at leaner oil and fuel ratios than older motors. This difficult operating environment requires proper lubrication technology to keep motors running long and strong. hp Injector is a premium lubricant engineered with AMSOIL synthetic base oils and MAXDOSE advanced additives. It contains up to 30 percent more additives than other TC-W3 two-cycle oils for Âsuper clean operation. And because AMSOIL synthetic oils are more durable, they are perfect for lean mixture operations. In addition, this AMSOIL exclusive product produces low smoke and odor and has low aquatic toxicity properties, making it ideal for boats.
hp Injector improves engine life. It helps prevent deposits that cause ring sticking and ring jacking (carbon build-up behind the ring, forcing it outward), a phenomenon that occurs in modern DFI outboard motors. hp Injector reduces wear. It has excellent lubricity properties and provides a good lubricating oil film, protecting pistons and bearings. hp Injector protects against rust, an important feature where motors are subjected to water. hp Injector provides superior performance in direct fuel injected (DFI), semi-direct fuel injected (SDI), electronic fuel injected (EFI) and carbureted outboard motors, as well as other recreational equipment.
Applications (2-Cycle Recommendations Chart)
hp Injector is recommended for use in all two-cycle outboard motors including, but not limited to, Mercury® EFI & Optimax®, Johnson® and Evinrude® FICHT® and E-TECÂ, Yamaha® HPDI, Nissan® and Tohatsu® TLDI®, Suzuki®, Mariner® and Force®. Also recommended for use in all two-cycle personal watercraft and jet boats, as well as snowmobiles, motorcycles and ATVs.
Use as injection oil or as 50:1 pre-mix (2.6 oz. per U.S. gallon of gas) where NMMA TC-W3 or API TC oils are specified. Compatible with mineral and synthetic TC-W3-type two-cycle oils, however, mixing two-cycle oils should be minimized.
I however will continue to use MERCURY DFI oil

I don't think you are reading the link correctly. Look at footnotes 4 & 5, excellent for DFI outboards, and looks TCW3 to me
If it ain\'t broke, don\'t fix it!![]()
Notes 4 & 5 are there own claims, not independent claims. And say nothing about TCW3 certificaiton. Amsoil has never been TCW3 certified.
And consider, if your motor is under warranty, and you use Amsoil, it will not be covered by the warranty. And Mercury does perform lab analysis on many warranty cases.
