Keeping Drinks Cold and Fish Alive-Sept. TIP

I have tried this all summer and seems to work great. I bought a couple of the foam floor mats from Wal-Mart , I measured my cooler lid in my boat and cut the foam mat and lined the inside top of it with the piece I cut out and the ice in cooler seems to not melt near as fast as without it. Also, I measured a piece and put it in the lid of my live well and it helped also , along with not bringing in any new water. I fill livewell in the morning when water is coolest, when i catch a couple of fish i put in at least a frozen pint bottle of water and keep the recirculator running, I don't put in any more water during the day. I keep swapping out the ice bottles throughout the day. I have not lost any fish doing this all summer. Must be working. Just thought this tip would help somebody. Oh, by the way I used contact cement to secure foam to lids.

What floor mats are you speaking of ? Ive been contemplating this for a while but was unsure where to get the insulating material. Is this in the auto section or housewares?

    thanks

The mats are in the area that has blinds, throw rugs etc. These are the outside type door mats made out of 1/2 inch foam material. They are 6-7 dollars each.

As for the ammonia buildup I always put in some bass medics live well treatment.
This takes most everything out such as ammonia and chlorine. This method of keeping fish alive has not let me down yet!
