I was fishing a night tournament last week. When it came time to turn the lights on the stern light did not work. (broken wire) The DNR office stopped and told us get it fixed or get a ticket. Getting a ticket also meant getting escorted to the launch ramp . Lucky for us I had a light stick in my suv for road emergencies. We taped the light to the pole and went on to fish the balance of the night. The large light sticks have a working life of 10-12 hrs. I went to Wally World and bought a supply for the boat & the suv.
