    Run out of gas?? do this...

    If you are out on the water and run out of gas dont panic, if you have a partner with you have them lay across the back deck and pump the primer buld. You will be able to get the motor fired back up and run. This will get you a couple of miles closer to the ramp if you'll just get the boat up on plane and cruise along. Your partner will look like a idiot laying back there pumping that bulb while you are running but it will work. Just make sure he wears his PFD!

    If no partner I would imagine that you could pump it, start the motor and go a little ways until it dies, just keep donig it over and over getting a little closer to the ramp each time. Could save you some paddling.

    Jay, my question is....how do you know this? Were you the guy laying on the back pumping the bulb or the one steering the boat?

    I was the one steering the boat.. skeeterjim was the one layed across my back deck. This happened back during the winter when we had been playing with props all day long. My gas gauge has a bad habit of not working once I am below a 1/2 tank and I didnt realize exactly how many miles I had ran while playing with different setups Oh, BTW, it was freakin snowing off and on that day But we sure had a good time, right up until the engine sputtered..

    not sure a .pdf file would do you much good, but a good PFD would...

    I can vouch for this tip. It works. But also tell the "pump man" to watch for the wave that comes over the transom when you finish off all the fuel. If he is laying on his belly and reaching back there, the wave will get him and maybe you with the extra weight in the back.

    I wonder if this could damage the motor?

    I just pump in 1 extra gallon of gas and save all the trouble...

    How about carrying one of those flat ATV fuell cells that hold 2.5 gals? would fit in most larger boats fuel compartment. Just dump it in if you run out and keeping to slow speeds should get you back to the ramp or a marina.

    This is a good tip HOWEVER I wonder if it would hurt the motor running out so many times??
    all the guys I used to fish with would laugh at me at the station or at the ramp because I would be fiddiling around(ya know getting it in just the right spot in the boat) with a 2 gallon can of Gas(and oil on the premix boats) but only 1 time being out and out of gas WILL make ya carry some extra

    You could always use your trolling motor to get in like I did. (Hub on my prop out) It was getting dark with no one around. It was a 3 hour trip to go to the marina that I could see the lights of when I started the trip.

    I talked to my dealer about it and he said to bring it in and he would fix it. Problem is I hate to drive an hour to take it in for just that. I actually looked at sending units at Academy Sports last week, but ended up not buying one, just feel its something the dealership should fix. So I have been waiting until I needed some other service or something to take it in. Probably get it fixed here pretty soon, I am needing to take it in now to get some service on the outboard
