    Insure Yourself (fishing gear)

Hey there guys this post is a little late but it got me thinking, A buddy of mine was recently transferred to Kodiak Is. Alaska. Along the way in Anchorage $9700.00 of his fishing gear was stolen out of the back of his F250. Bad thing was he was in a river trout fishing less than a mile from his truck when this occured. The only reason he had it all with him was cause he was moving there. Cops told him it was probably just some kids as HS had just gotten out. Thank god they did not get into the front of his truck where he had about 12 guns. Anyways he had to go through a lot of hoops to get the insurance company to settle his claim. He did have alot of receipts, but not all, since then he has been rebuilding his fishing gear and just got a partial check from his insurance co for almost $6500.00 They are still investigating the rest of his claim.
This got me to thinking with the upcoming tourney and travel season and i know alot of you are heading to SC in a few days. I emptied out my entire boat and garage into the drive way and took pictures of everything i own from life jackets to spools of line, to all my plano boxes wide open to show whhat is in them. I simply could not afford to have these things stolen and have to replace them on my own. Hopefully with pictures and alot of receipts if this ever happened to me i would be able to get reimbursed(quickly) and not have to go thru the hassle my buddy did. So i would recommend you all do some sort of inventory on you gear prior to making any road trips- Just in case!!!!!!! Protect your investment take lots of pictures and keep all receipts!

Just wanted to share and possibly help others out

Good idea. I've also heard of making video tape records of all your stuff as well. Just walk around your home and video everything and then put the tape in a safe deposit box or at a family member's home. This is just incase of a fire, at least you have a record of what you had to show the insurance company. Keep it up to date too.

If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten.

Smart, that is what I did after a guy told me about having all of his gear stolen from his boat, said the insurance company gave him the run around because he did not have any proof of what he was claiming.
