    2004 225 HO ???loose??? Steering

I have an interesting scenario for you guys. I have this motor on a 20X Triton. I am having trouble when I am on the "pad" with the boat moving from side to side. This in not the side to side rocking associated with chine-walk, its like a cross wind except there is no wind. The boat just moves over. I have the Seastar Hyd steering and was wondering if I could have some air in the system. The steering doesn't seem to have any play in it at slower speeds but it is really hard to tell at WOT.

    Hopefully someone can help.

    Thank you in advance.

Take the fill cap off the helm station and check the fluid level if it is low top it off and re-bleed the system. Check all of your mounting bolts on the transom and the jack plate if you have one.

You can also push on the motor with your hand, it should only move about 1/8 of an inch on the steering ram.

Try this too, trim the motor up until it is in the tilt range, grab the skeg on the gear case and see if you can shake the whole motor from side to side.

Tritons will do that just before they swap ends at WOT....

How do you bleed the system?

You need two people to bleed it, you connect a quart of oil to the fill tube and attach it to the fitting in the helm or in the dash if its tilt wheel, you attach the bleed tube to one of the bleed fittings at the ram on the motor and loosen the bleed fitting, turn the wheel in the direction you are bleeding and run the whole quart of oil through the system.

Do the other bleeder screw the same way.
