    Extended warranty?

Hello, I am in the market for a motor. The one I am thinking about buying has the last part of the factory warranty still in effect. Can I get an extended warranty on a 2006 200 Optimax? Thx.

Thank you for the note. There are options for used engines. Are you buying from a dealer or private party? The warranty companies will require the engine to be checked out before sale, ensuring there is not an existing problem. The thought is that a dealer would not sell a broken motor. Let me know how much is left and what you are looking for. One of the companies we work with has a surcharge for used motors past 6 months from original sale. We cab give a couple options.
let us know how we can help.
    Thank you,

From a dealer. He says there is about two years remaining and that it checks out in great shape.

The warranties do get more expensive when the owner waits to buy it. The company that offers this warranty has a surcharge for purchases made after 6 months of your inservice date. The additional two years of coverage would cost $3065. The other company we represent only has 5 years total and your factory warranty is that long. Weather you add this or not, please make sure that the warranty transfer is done properly and will be in your name.
Let me know if we can help with anything.

I would by the extended warranty from Merc or one of their dealers. The price is negoiable, Mercury quoted me a suggested retail for two additional years of $2500, but I was able to by it through Don at European Marine (a board sponsor )at a substantial savings.

    Good luck,

    HP

    Re: Extended warranty? (PvtJoker)

The warranty companies we represent are the same ones that a dealer would have. The one I quoted has a surcharge because of the time since the motor was bought new. I did just see a warranty that Merc is offering that adds 2 more to the 3 + 2 they currently have. I have not seen a price on it yet and do not know if there is any rule on when it is purchased. I believe it was called "Platinum". We sell most of our warranties through dealers but promote them more than most dealers would do. Please make sure of what you are getting. The one I quoted has a $20,000. limit, most have limits at $10,000.
As always - read the fine print.
