A friend of mine has an '06 250 pro xs and said he bought new filters to replace in the oil lines as part of his winter maintenance program. I have never done this and was wondering if this is part of regular maintenance. Is this something I can/should do. Is there a problem with air in the lines after this procedure? Thanks
The inline filters in the air compressor oil return lines should be replaced whenever they become restricted (as usually evidenced by oil leaks occuring at the compressor), AND ANY TIME THE AIR COMPRESSOR IS REPLACED.
These filters are in place to trap debris (from a failed or failing compressor) that would otherwise reach the CRANKSHAFT MAIN-END BEARINGS.
There is not a specific "required at "X" hours" recommendation.
ANYTIME you open ANY connection on the oil injection system, the oil pump needs to be bled/primed via an "Oil Pump Prime" sequence (done with the Computer Diagnostic System, or a DDT).
