    4 beeps every 2 min.

Hey guys. I have a 1998 300 Mariner Promag. Its got less than 100hrs on the motor i had the motor three weeks with zero issues when i had to take my boat to the shop to get some repairs to the transom. The motor was taken off for the repairs and then put back on afterwards. First time i take the boat out after idling the motor for maybe a min i get 4 beeps then a couple min later the beeps come back. My temp is fine and water pressure is ok as well. I dont have the owners manual for the motor so i looked on the internet and saw 4 beeps every 2 min means water is in the fuel filter. So i took the fuel filter off the under the cowling and the one in the boat by the tank and drained the gas out of them into a cup. The gas in the cup from the filter seems to be water free. The motor in general runs fine! the temp is normal when running and i have not seen any water pressure issues either.. I was wondering if yall had any clue what could be making the alarm sound. Thanks!

4 beeps every 2 min means the small oil tank mounted on the motor is low, sense you already check for water in filter. This tank has to be absolutely full.

Is the best way to fill in it take the cap off while its idling or to take it off at home and fill it?

You can do it either way. If you are on the water, pull the cowl, loosen or remove the oil tank lid, start the motor and the pressure will fill the tank. If you don't get the lid on quick enough oil will spill so keep a rag handy.
If in the garage pull the lid and fill the tank to the top. You need to make sure the main tank lid in the boat is tight.
