Best compound and wax for oxidized top rail

I have some oxidation and sun blemishes on my top rail and am wanting to get rid of the problem. I have read basscat's post on wet sanding and was going to go that route. However, I have seen a video on youtube and read on another site of people who used McGuiar's Oxidation Remover kit. Most you have used this did not have to wet sand but instead used the oxidation buffer compound and just buffed using it. Anyone else tried it?

no, go read Basscat7s system again. It is the ONLY way that will remove the oxidation. You will be happy with the results if you follow it.

Oxidation comes in varying degrees...........if your boat has just the beginning form of oxidation and has not yet settled deeper into the pores then any type of name brand medium cut compound used on a high speed buffer should remove the slight haze.
If you already have typical whitish cloudy areas, there's a good chance the compound will not work that well and will only remove the surface layer.
This usually looks good for a few weeks, but once the boat is out in the sun again the cloudiness usually starts to come back.

I used the Meguiars Oxidation Remover, Polish and Wax that comes in the kit along with wetsanding per BassCat7's instructions and my results were excellent.

99ranger, I was going to go that route more than likely. Just waiting on a little warmer weather.

It is the best Carnauba wax on the market, used by salt water guys for years.

It was amazing how much more difference it made even after the sanding and buffing!

The wax is there only to protect the finish.......to get the gloss, the glaze part , after the compounding, is what puts the shine on the gelcoat.
3 M discontinued the original Glaze in the thread ( 3M Final Glaze # 06066 ) and replaced it with
06068 3M Perfect-it Ultrafine Machine Polish ( used with the buffer ) or 05990 Imperial Hand Glaze.

Both are a fine polish that after compounding ( which leaves the gel looking dull) will restore the gloss and fill in any swirl marks, etc.
