I got it VERY cheap..lol if you couldnt tell. I just couldnt let it sit there and die. I have always wanted a "real" bass boat, and this is the closest I have come so far. Is there any info out there on these boats?? I have been unable to find ANY real info on Hurst. anyone with any info out there please share.
You have some work ahead of you..Looks like any wood on her is rotted
Did you check the transom?
rotted...Id bet anyway. 2 small stress cracks. IF I do it it will get totally redone. clamshell crack open.
Good luck on the rebuild. I've seen the Hurst boat before but it has been awhile. The back of the boat resembles a Champion or Charger.

I thought it was a older Champion..lol
Im just not sure if I really want to dive in this deep already.

I have a friend that fixed one up about 4 years ago.Great boat he had to replace the lower floor and and reglass two stringers.Good luck![]()
Does he have any pics. this is a super hard boat to find a pic of...lol
Are they rare???
Well, I guess you'd have your work cut out...Do you have garage space? Can you glass? Paint? Electrics? Plumbing? If you can do most of the work, it'll still cost $3-4K.....but you will know exactly what you have ...looks like the hull is pretty good...and you could reconfigure the deck....I agree with the other post about the trailer - too long.........you'll need patience and time....I dunno, it's a big resto...I've bin there...![]()

Let me add another variable. I also have this.
1978 Blue Fin Sea Hawk 16ft
BOTH boats are bought and paid for. I got the Hurst for steering and motor and other donor parts for this Blue Fin. but after I got it, it has grown on me and I am debating now. Cant keep them both ya know.
That Blue Finn, you could put a small outboard on it and fish it now. I saw a Hurst for sell on Craigslist today in the Carbondale, Ill. section. It was a tri-hull type.

I remember one back in the 70's with a 200 Johnson on it. That thing would fly at lest, It would out run my BMC with a 85 on it.My Terry didn't have a chance

12 lbs 9 oz caught on 4/28/1975 Lake Eufaula
Looks like a lot less work on the Blue Fin - you'd be on the water this year, not next....decisions, decisions...IMHO, the Hurst could look really good but so much time (250+hours), whereas the Blue Fin......a couple of long weekends..![]()

oh i just finished up my little 14ft semiV its ready to roll.
you know how it goes bigger better faster...
I have a B-160 Hurst Boat. Had it since it was new. The colors are red and gold metal flake. Don't ever use it now but it is still in good condition and always kept inside. Its a 1977 year model and has a 1978 200HP Merc on it, still in good condition. Its 16ft 10in . My brother in law had a boat like the one you have. It was brown and gold metal flake with a 235 Johnson on it. I think it was close to 18ft in length. Marvin Hurst made the boats in Orlando Florida. He made them from late 70's to early 80's. Was a very nice boat back in the day. My brother in laws brother made the gas tanks for them. His name was Bob Rector and he had a welding shop in Orlando. I paid 1500 dollars cash for the B-160 I have. Very fast boat and looked like the old Skeeter Wranglers. Reason I still have it. I got such a good deal on it I bought it for my Dad who had a very rare type of skin cancer. He died without ever getting to fish out of it. He was a very young 48yrs old and I was 25.I bought the Mercury the next year for it. Back then every one overpowered their boats. The boat was rated for 145 Hp.Keith
put the 70 horse merc of the hurst on the blue fin put in a console an acouple of casting decks and then its a bass boat![]()
Well i was outside poking around in the Hurst today after work before the rain came. WOW. I think I am going to use it as a doner boat for all the goodies it has and send it back down the road for what I paid for it. Looks like it is the tin. I like the alot less work too. have a Johnson 9.9 and a kicker bracket. Ill be good to go.
Thank you for everyones input. I guess Ill still have to hold out for the "true" bass boat.
Hursts were very popular back then. They ran well and guys on Okeechobee liked the rough water ride. It would be a head turning classic if restored.
