This is how I found her. Rode hard and out up wet. After checking the transom and a few other things I ended up with her.
The Gel Coat is coming out nice!!!

The boat was real crap the motor came off of but the motor was really nice. Compression was good and it ran good on muffs so we will see. The goal at the latest is WOW. I hope it to be on the water in the next few weeks.
looking great
are you sanding by hand or machine?
yea id like to know how you slicked it up? my 89 stratos the silver on top is showing some tanning guess it getting mild case of sunbake

Hand... I tried both a little electric orbital and a DA run by my air compressor and just to many contours. If you do go machine be careful to keep that thing moving or you will get thru to the flake if you are not careful.

Depends on how bad it is. If it is not bad you can start with 1500 and then 2000 sandpaper (Wet Sanding). After that I used a buffer and McGuire's Ultimate Polishing Compound and then a good coat of carnuba wax...
It is a lot of elbow grease but worth it!!!
I took the sand paper and wrapped it around a thick/heavy sponge for all the little contours. Keep the surface wiped off and dip the sponge a lot to get the sanded material out of the grit.
More picks , what electronics are you going to put on her ?
Save your arms and get one of them harbor freight buffer and pads ?
You headed out soon? We are gonna try tomorrow (Sun).
I have a 798 for the dash and and an older monochrome up front. I did machine buff... more like a variable speed grinder but my shoulders paid a price for the sanding for sure.
I ran all the controls thru the boat today and hope to see if it turns over tomorrow. Will then sort out the fuel lines and see if she actually runs.
These are not the final seats but will probably have them in @ first.
Not really crazy about the deck at this point but to early to tell really. It is on hold until the motor runs.

Looking good , you will enjoy this boat over the smaller Ranger ?![]()
So I scrapped the first deck. Once I got it framed I did not like it especially how big it was as a unit so I decided the try a three piece that sets in and clips to the boat (have not figured that out yet).
I framed a lid for the rod locker and cut a lid for it. It sits nice and even. I have the old padded lounge seat I will get recovered and the idea is to build a slide in frame for that with same clips.

The other side that was just open. That box is framed and close. The 2*4's will be replaced with a piece of 2*10 I will cut to fit under the frame to make a box.

I have not started on the center box.
tick tock tick tock.... spring is near must hurry...
Looking good ? Also send you a IM ?
Looking good so far Mark. Keep up the good work. Keep us up to date.

Best thing today was finishing the controls and actually having the motor turn over. Still need fuel lines and have to find a spot for the oil tank that came with the Yamaha.
Decks are built to a point. The carpet on the center is just tacked down for sizing and making sure the lids close. I did not realize the front live well lid is not original. I was having trouble fitting things together until I realized it was skewed and a little smaller than the orig. I will likely just make another one.
The deck lids got a coat of fiberglass resin and am going to do the same with the frame of each compartment.

If you aint first , your last !!!
All fat girls welcomed !!!!!
The carpet is just a little diff now that all is glued and vacuumed. The front area is about 6 months older although it has never seen the sun. It was the same carpet but diff lots I bet. It is so close I think after a few trips in the sun and getting it a little dirty then vacuuming a few times it will be basically the same.
Net is to get her running. I have some things left to to to the boxes like props for the lids but for now I need to get her on the water and see how all that is.
I have a wiring question about the motor in the Yamaha forum if any one knows these motors.
