question on 2007 Pro XS Optimax

I am currently very close to purchasing a 2007 TR-21X2 with a 225 Pro XS Optimax with 55 hours on it.

Can anyone give me any info or advise on this motor if you have it or know someone with one.

    thanks!

also, I am not really concerned with speed. Can you let me know what size prop would be great for hole shot, power and control in water

    thanks

Re: question on 2007 Pro XS Optimax (jcuts9)

I run that engine on a 2007 TR-20HP. It makes great power and performs very nicely on my hull. Issues I have had with my engine involved the L/U seals, trim motor, and a coil failure. I believe it was the drive shaft seal design that was problematic. The replacement is an improved design. All the issues were handled under warranty and the motor has been fine. Even though the one your looking at only has a few hours, it is also several years old. I would want to have it checked out and serviced by a good OPTI tech. I'd especially be interested in getting the fuel filter and impeller changed as well as having the L/U drained and pressure tested. Be sure to read (and heed) the Optimax FAQ posts Don has pinned above. Good luck!

Been running one since 2006, Couldn't be more content and surprised, I have nothing but great things to say about the power, trouble free and last but not least that famous Merc Growl. Bullet proof up to now.
