Looked at a Boat for sale and it has this crack below the plate bolt holes from one side to the other. Dosen't look good to me what are everyone's thoughts ?? It's at a mechanics shop and he says it has a sound transom/hull. Just made me nervous when I saw this crack. What can be done to fix it ??
I would lean towards a Bad transom , Did a Seacast repair on my 1981 Ranger 350V about 3 years ago and is still solid . So it can be fixed if the price is right .
I have a few good cracks like that in my Ranger. No problem at all it's actually from the transom saver being bolted on tight and the slight flexing of the boat. Still check that the transon isn't bad and have those holes resealed.

I'm just throwing this out as I have no idea, but do stress cracks like this go to the core are they just in the gelcoat?
If they are cosmetic only would it not still be a good idea to use a wicking type resin or other product like Captain Tolley's Creeping Crack Cure to seal them and prevent water from finding a way in. I had stress cracks in a travel trailer where a softball hit the fiberglass side and eventually had water wick in and damage the wood under the fiberglass. Just a thought.
