im needng some advice on kinds of clear,was thinking imron. also what kind of grit to use to scuff it so the coat will stick. or can i even do this at all? please any suggetions r welcome thanks

Dont use regular auto clear unless you plan on keeping less than a year or two. It will not hold up. Do it right. Use Gel Coat. Auto clear is just not made for the marine eviroment. Not made to be stepped on/sctratched/and is much thinner than properly applied gel coat. Will not stand the abuse like gel coat.

Thats a fact....and I run a auto body shop. I did my top cap w/ the best auto clear on the market just over 6 years ago, and it's showing its age already....even with MUCHO care. I gel coated the hull, what a freakin pain.....BUT.... it is holding up great.
Have you tried the wet sand and buff yet?
