    Another Deck Extension Question

So I have my deck extension more or less planned out. I do have one question/issue though.

I have a rod locker that runs along the left side of my boat. The lid opens "inward", meaning the hinge is toward the inside of the boat. This means that where the extension meets the locker, I would have to leave about a 1"-ish gap to make sure the lid can open completely.

Can anything be done about this? I was wondering if it's possible to "flip" the hinge, although that might be complicated by the lock mechanism. I also don't know if there is clearance on the outer side.

It's not that big a deal, but it would be nicer if I didn't have to have a "slot" running through my deck.

    Thanks.

I've never seen one like that. Do you have any pictures?

can you hinge off of the new extension. Put the hinge on top. I am going to do that with mine.

Only problem with that is that my extension will be removable. If I hinge off the extension, every time I take it out the rod locker lid will go with it, LOL! Plus, the extension will only butt up against the rod locker for about 2 feet or so.

I can't get pics right now. I'll try to make a diagram.

    It's basically something like this...

Red lines show how the side locker opens, yellow shows the area where the extension will go. I didn't bother to draw the console to keep the clutter down.

looks like an older Skeeter layout. Late 80s perhaps.

Haha, thanks. I'm a graphic designer. I design ads and marketing materials while daydreaming about getting "thunked" on jigs.

It was actually drawn in Adobe Illustrator. CAD seems too intense for me.

Jack Yates - you are exactly right. It's an '88 SD 125.

what about leaving the gap that you need for it to opperate, but filling the gap with some sort of gasket material. Im thinking like the ones on car doors. That way the gap is not as noticeable and you would still have the function you need. just a thought...............

That's a thought. Maybe the carpet can even go over it so it blends in even more, but will flex when the lid puts pressure on it.

just a thought i had.....is there any way to put the hinges on the other side of the lid? that way it would open towards the outside thus eliminating your problem.
