Removing glue?

Wondering if anyone has some good information. I am re-carpeting my boat and I was wanting to know if anyone suggest a good percentage of the glue that should be removed (60, 80 or 90%)? Thanks,

i pretty anal so I remove 100%..

I was say as close to 90 as you could get..

Id suggest using MEK for removing the excess glue. That and a scotchbright pad.

Used acetone and a scraper to get 100% of my glue off. It worked really good, made it a lot easier. Hope this helps!

Toulene works even better than acetone BUT you MUST wear a repsirator..or you will be higher than a georgia pine.....

Can I mix the acetone with water in a spray bottle. Seems the acetone wont spray good if not and it would be much easier to spray on.

I apply it with a paint brush... let it sit for a minute or 2 then scrape off... go back with a soaked rag or paper towel and wipe off the residue

I just redid my carpet, and put acetone right into a sparay bottle. Used the mist setting, and put a good damp coating on. Let sit for a minute, and scrape away. Repeated if necessary.

Worked great on lids. I scraped the lids first, to remove most of the glue. Then I spayed the acetone on, followed by a scraper. Finally, I sprayed acetone on again and wiped off with a rag. Got 100% of the glue off.

Great advice. I tried the scraper and brush, worked pretty well. My glue was pretty tough to deal with (it is 23 years old). I had the best success with a wire brush. I painted it on with a paint brush, scrubbed it with wire brush then wiped away old glue with a clean towel. Thanks for the help fellas
