I have an older, well used bass boat that runs fine (150 HP) but would like to restore it back to excellent condition. I would appreciate any input as to where the best place to get some of these things done (I live in Denton Texas).
Carpeting. New gel coat. Actually thought about a wrap but not sure which is less expensive? The motor cowling needs sanded and painted. Trailer needs sanded and painted. New seats (can you get factory Stratos seats?).
I dont know where in TX to get it done .. I did a search of your area on google maps, I see your near Dallas.
The area your in there should be a phone full of Fiberglass shops, and Upholstery Shops ( some upholstery shops do carpets too ) But They are out there
And then a Outboard mechanic too
Your not likely to find a one stop shop for all your wanting done.. I have a shop here in TN that does all that ( except motor work ).. but Im not the norm.
Price wise you had better bring out your folding money .. your looking at a price range of 5000 - 9000 to do all your wanting.
Basically you need to get out your local phone book find a boat repair shop, and ask them who they recommend to do all your wanting, if the local guy dosent know get on google and find one in Dallas or Fort Worth that does.
Beware older model boats tend to have rotting stringers and transoms .. before you spend all that have some one give your boat a thorough going over, to look for potential issues .. no point in having all the other done then find out you need the stringers etc done too

i agree. check the transom and stringers. i just finished rebuilding the transom in m 1988 stratos 181 pro. the jack plate had a gap between it and the transom so i went to tighten the upper bolts and found the nuts and washers sunk in to the inner glass skin and into the rotten wood. i cut the splash well for access and rebuilt the transom. the knees and stringers are still in decent shape and sound solid but i plan on rebuilding those also in the future.
I just had my 88 Skeeter Starfire wrapped three weeks ago. 700.00 cheaper than the gelcoat repair. I couldn't be happier. Would post the pics but not sure how to do it.
Jacks Skeeter looks unbelievable. The wrap gives it the look of a new boat and the cost he said he paid was well worth it.
Just finished TOTALLY restoring a 89 201 PRO.Took a year and a half.Removed top cap,new stringers,transom.All I reused was the gas tanks.It has been painted black with a white top cap.Used interlux perfection..New carpet,rebuilt dash,pumps,hyd.steering,decals etc.I have app.$3500.00 in it,but untold hours!This is the second one I have done.Did my partners 90 201 five years ago.Fished the Stratos owners tournament on Lake Kissimee several months ago.Several guys thought it was new!
