Popped The Cap on 1984 ProCraft 1650V

Well after a living hell to free the Transom, the cap came off today. This is what she looked liked. It looks like she has had a rough life. I have had her for about a week now. A couple of Questions..
    1. What is all the foam for and where do I get new foam if needed.
    2. What are the 2 boxes at the Aft of the boat for? Wood full of foam? What can I put back in there?

    Here are the pics.

Well I have some work to do

Very surprised to see your boat that BARE... the stringers definitely have to be replaced... as for the foam, if I can remember right in other previous posting(s)... theres foam in the black area in the rear part of the boat...

Good start to a long project!!!

Just do a search on google for "Floatation Foam" and it should take you somewhere...

Mind taking some pictures of the top cap on the inside... Im interested in seeing how the floor is attached...

you replace the foam with 2 part closed cell foam you mix the two parts together and they grow into foam. Its there for flotation reason your country has laws im sure where there has to be so much flotation foam in the boat. It is closed cell foam so it wont suck up water. Just replace it where ever you dig it out from. 1 tip with rebuilding measure measure and measure again take lots of photos for memory of where and how things go back together and if your stuck ask questions and every one will help.have alook at my post skeeter hawk rebuild you will see the flotation foam boxes at the rear of my boat + me digging out the foam Good luck you will need it and enjoy

Just remember when digging, the stuff in your boat was also closed cell. (is it saturated?) Closed cell foam, while a great flotation aid, can soak up water if exposed to it long enough. Looks like a lot of work but when your done, you'll have more pride in your boat than anything you can just go out and buy.

Or you will be cursing yourself for putting so much time and money into her!! Weight the facts and figure how much to replace everything.. Unless you can do all the work yourself, glass work is expensive, you must also support the boat sides to keep the shape and re straight edge the hull when reglassing.. I'm going through the same stuff no myself.. Good luck

Thanks for the encourgement everyone. I will make her good as new. For one I have plenty of time. I am a Disable Veteran and the VA Hospital is still working on me so no Job to go to .
Second I am very stubborn and I do not give up, not to mention I am sick of fishing Lake Conroe from shore!

    Question??????
Do I have to put the foam back in? Will it affect the boat in any way or is it a safty feature?

Rebel, here are the pics that you asked for. I had to cut the floor out because it was so rotten. But I can tell you the boat was attached at the front boxes, live well, rod holder and seats, rear live well/boxes and the freaken transom was done like crazy. I think they put the two halves together while it was still wet by the way it was bonded together. I am glad that the transom was rotten or I might not have gotten her loose.

Yes, you need to put foam back in and Yes it is a safety feature. It is called floatation foam for a reason.

The West Marine stores around here carry the two part foam.
The foam inside of the boat is to keep it from totally sinking should it become submerged(providing the foam is not already saturated from long term wetness ).
