    1984 VL270 Hydra Sport Restoration

I just bought a VL270 Hydra Sport. I have decided that the transom is rotten and I am in the process of pulling the top for replacement. I have never pull the cap off of a boat. I have the trim removed all the was around and all of the interior screws. How does the transom seperate? How heavy is it? Will the 2X4 rafters in my shop hold it? Are the 4 rope tie down a good lifting point?

Well if you haven't looked at this one then i would. http://www.bbcboards.net/zerothread/14109

from my experience, it is a little overwhelming. in fact i am contemplating just buying another boat. yeah it is that much work and although once done you will have a new boat, I'm not sure if i want to put fourth that much effort.

I will have to replace everything, transom, stringers , flotation. then rebuild the engine. hey good luck!

I got the top off I am kinda of slow it took me 5 evenings. Looks like all the wood in the back of the boat is gone. This project is going to take some time. Thanks for showing me the post of the skeeter. I hope mine will look that good when completed.

Glad you got the top cap seperated. The whole process is not fun, but it is cheaper than buying a different boat usually. Just keep asking questions if you need help. There are several ways to make the repairs that you need, so do some research and deside which way you want to go.
By the way, 5 evenings isn't all that bad, I spent 3 trying to get one area seperated before I figured how to get it apart.

Thanks for the feedback, this boat is in pretty bad shape. I will post some pictures of it later this week.
