    Truck bed liner for boat

    Hi all,

I'm sure this has been discussed in detail, and if so feel free to direct me to those posts, but I have been unable to find the information I'm seeking. I bought a center console (Cape Horn..not exactly bass boat) and there are some minor cracks (hopefully minor) in various spots on the deck. I've considered gelcoat repair kits but am also curious about the spray-in type bed liners for trucks. I know a guy who does this in aluminum boats he builds, but have not heard anything about using it on gelcoat. Any pros or cons? Professional spray-on versus DIY roll on? I'm also curious about using the DIY roll-on along the keep rather than spending $160 for a strip of Keel-Guard..suggestions?

    Thanks

I don't see why you couldn't do it. There is a company that applies a product called "Gorilla Hull" on the hulls of boats that looks just like bed liner. I don't know if it has the same formula as regular bed liner material.
I'm pretty sure that stuff will stick to just about anything. One of my employees bought an old International Scout and bought the gal cans of the roll on bed liner from wal mart and applied it to the entire rig. It looked pretty cool when he got done and hid all the surface rust. Made a great brush beater truck.

Re: Truck bed liner for boat (TonyMc)

Thanks for the info. My biggest concern is, as you mentioned, whether or not the chemical properties of the different liners would make a difference. I'm too familiar with gelcoat, etc., and I would hate to put a product on that "eats" through my gelcoat. I'm also curious as to whether it would even be worth it to repair the cracks with a gelcoat repair kit if I were planning on putting this liner over it.

    Thanks again.

Almost all the standard bedliner type materials are polyurethane based and can be used on gelcoat.
Any large gouges or cracks will need to be repaired as the bedliner material will flow into them and leave a gully where they are when dry.
Gel would need to be prepped well for the material to adhere and last. Cleaning well with wax removers and sanding to scuff up the gel .
