I have a 1993 Javelin 379 and I think the gelcoat is damaged. I wetsanded it and the finish is smooth and shiny, but in the sun the glitter doesn't sparkle. Is there a way to repair this?

Hmmmm, that is a tough one there, sounds like it was too far gone, may have to be resprayed but I'm far from experienced at this!!!
This is a question that i am tackling now. Being new on here i was told by a fiberglass guy that after you wetsand it, let it dry, then you can apply a clear coat on the boat to get the shine back. Not sure if this works but i am hoping to find out this weekend.
DONT use clear coat. It will not last! If you are planning on keeping it, use real gel coat with duratec. I gel coat boats and thats all I use. Last 10-15+ years with decent upkeep and buffs out nice after spraying with minimal sanding. Material for 18 foot boat are 1.5 gal gel/1.5 gal duratec/MEKP/and I also add polyflake to 1st coat if original flake is dulled to bring it back. Not a lot of money(around $200 or so) for materials but a good bit of labor. You have to have a gel spray gun/different tips/good compressor/seperator-regulator/RESPIRATOR!!!!!!! Plus any repair work that is needed. A bad spot will be magnified 10 fold after new gel coat if not repaired first. I plan on starting to do more boats this fall because my primary job is about to go south.....
