I have an 1986 Champion with heavy oxidation. I am going to use heavy cut compound then I am going to follow up with light cut compound/ polish, then the sealant. I have done a test patch by hand and it sure looks good.
Now for the question...... I was told to use a wool pad with the heavy cut compound so that the avbrasives in the compound will get in the pores of the gel coat. But when I use the wool pad I am going thro so much compound due to the fact that the wool pad is soaking up so much of it and it is taking forever to get past the oxidation. So I decided to try the orange foam pad and low and behold it cleaned up quick with just a dab of compound and no waste of material. So is it really necessary to use the compound with the wool pad? It just seems to me with the heavy cut compound and orange foam pad it surely has to be getting in the pores of the gel coat. So anyway am I OKAY USING THE FOAM PADS? I want to do this right and don't want it to look like crap in a month and have to start all over again. Just to let you know I am using Gel Coat Labs products and from the test patch I did by hand I am very pleased with thier product.
