I have a 86 VS 150, as some of you know Ive been restoring it over last couple months, My seats where in bad shape, the vinyl needs replaced, I was going to recover my self still may.
But I had got to thinking about ways to avoid water penetrating my new floor, not screwing / bolting my fiber glassed framed pedestal seats back threw the deck of the boat, but making a fiberglass rise to mount either new seats on so that they dont screws/bolts back into the deck.
And then a few minutes ago I saw a skeeter board poster selling his seats, I went to look at what he had .. and I gave me a great idea, that I had not thought of .. making seats that fold back that have storage under the seats, here is his ( allskeeter ) pics that Im re-posting here to show the idea of what Im going to do ..
Here is a mock up of what Im going to do to the boat to make this like the skeeter, pardon the mock up was done in a few mins.. but I hope you get what Im trying to show in the pics ?
Im going to make a frame for it from 2x2 , then use a pieces of press board or some other such cheap expendable material to cover that , and then apply mold release to the press board cover the whole thing in glass, 1st a layer of 1.5oz mat, then build up a couple or three layers of woven roving until strong enuff, then pull out the frame, and glass that into the boat then can mount the seats to that .. then no more screws into the wood deck of the floor! and Ill will have some much needed storage space for small items
I will cover the step up in carpet, so I wont have to worry with making a perfect traditional mold
What do yall think >?
