Wet sand, wet sand, rub out, and buff. NICE

Here is a before and after picture of my Astroglass. The finish on it was heavily oxidized and I thought I would have to gel coat it or paint it. Most of the top cap felt like 100 grit sandpaper. On the advice of my neighbor, his brother, and 2 painters at work, I got most of the family out in the driveway with 2 buckets of slightly soapy water, 500 grit wet paper and a little elbow grease. Only took about 45 minutes to sand it down. Then went to the 1000 grit and did it again. That took less time. I rubbed most of it out with the buffer and 3M liquid rubbing compound, but by the time it came to the 3M Finesse it II, there was too much dew settling down on the boat and it kept balling up. So, my 12 year old daugher helped me hand polish it until about 12:30 in the morning! The second picture is before we put the carnuba wax on it. You can actually see and count the louvered shades in the windows across the street. After the wax was even better. Now I have to do everything under the rub rail.........

    The after pic.....

Looks all shiny and stuff, and water actually beads now.

    What do you think?

It is a lot of elbow grease, but well worth the effort to bring your boat back to looking new.....keep a good coat of Carnauba wax on it and wipe it down with BBS after each use.
Did you use a high speed buffer with the Finnese it ?

No hi speed buffer because the dew was giving me fits. Just as it would buff out, the material would ball up and smear. Samantha helped me hand buff it for about 2 hours. I had used the Finesse it II earlier in the day before wet sanding and it worked very well , but I could still 'feel' the surface and see the imperfections in it. After the sanding/rubbing/buffing, it is like glass. I will try under the rub rail area with the buffer but I won't start so late in the day so maybe I won't have that trouble again. Thanks to all for the comments.
