1991 Ranger 320V Deck Extension Ideas?

Has anybody built a front deck extension for the 320V? I have a 1991 320V that I need a little more front deck room on and was hoping someone has already tackled this. Thanks to all that read this.

    Welcome to the site, Blackdog!

Nice to meet a fellow 320v owner, there aren't that many out there that I've found. I know exactly what you mean about the front deck, not much leg room up there. As for a deck extension specifically for a 320v, I haven't seen anyone posting with one, but there are a lot of threads about deck extensions for Rangers of that era, and Ranger layouts back then were pretty similar. You should be able to do a search and find the threads, use them for ideas and construction methods, and then use your own dimensions from your boat.

Let us know how it goes if you decide to build one. I'd like to build one for my boat this summer, but we'll see if there's time for that! I'll make sure to document my process when I do attempt it, and let you all know.

Thanks for the welcome. Yea the 320 is a neat little boat. She will fly and get into spots the big boys can't. I am having some issues with the livewells and am going to call Ranger and or florite and order new parts for a complete livewell rebuild. I will keep you posted on the results. By the way- Go Yankees. I had to ruin it didn't I.

I redid my livewells last year. I believe I ordered all necessary parts right from FloRite, but I did reconfigure them to a new system. Ranger may be able to send you identical replacement parts, or if you want to create a new style system, FloRite has what you'll need.

    Oh yeah: Yuck the Fankees!!!

Did you have to pull the gas tank out or just the batteries and oil tank?

i pulled the gas tank and all batteries. when i redid my system i was in the middle of a repower, and the new motor doesnt have an external oil tank. depending on how much you're doing, you might be able to get away with just taking the batts and trays out, but it will probably be a lot easier in the long run to remove everything.

    Hi fellow 320v owners.
I got a 1989 320v that I've just put a deck extension into. I made a complete hatch with lid and Ranger liftring and it's made a BIG difference.
Basically I copied the one from the pic's of the 521VX in the 2006/7 Ranger cataloge.
Did'nt take any "before or during" pic's but I could take one of the finished item.
Put an LED light into it as well...also helps a lot.

    Dave,

On the rod locker side what did you use to secure the base for the deck. What fasteners did you use going through the glass of the rod box? Thanks a lot. I would like to see an after pic if you have time to post or send one. Thanks again.

On another 320 note: I just ordered all new livewell parts from Ranger and will be tackling the project of a complete change out of pumps, cables, actuators(sp?). I will follow up how that goes. It was $130 for all those parts.

Re: 1991 Ranger 320V Deck Extension Ideas? (blackdog21)

    Shawn,
I ran a piece of 1" x 1/2" along the top of the rod locker so that the deck extension thickness is the same as the rod locker lid and peeled away the carpet inside the rod locker so that the bolt heads don't scratch my rods. The nuts I countersunk into the wood and closed up the hole with woodfiller. The piece was sealed before installation.

I've done livewell valves etc already and removed only 1 battery and the centre "cover".
I left the tank in place.
What motor are you running ?

I am running a 1998 Johnson Fast Strike 115. It runs 54mph, no jackplate, just bolted on std transom. Plenty fast for me. Thanks for the help on the deck, that is how I pictured it in my mind, but nice to hear it works.

    Glad to help.

320V with a Faststrike is a sweet rig.

320V owner here!! Just got it two days ago. Johnson 110. She goes right along!!! Especially from the 40hp tri-hull I was riding...

When you say deck ext. what do ya mean? Make it more square/bigger, farther back in the boat? (Sorry for the dumb question)

My issue is sitting behind the wheel... I cant get my legs under it. No big deal for sure.

I LOVE the boat so far. Caught three in it this eve and the Ms got a Pikeral (sp?) on a crank bait.

    Hi Guys,
    Love my 320.
Extension deck is from the front livewell back to in-line with the consol.
    I'm running a Mariner 175 V6 on mine.

Dang 175. Its rated for a 115 max. The hull only weighs 750 or so. Seems like you would go airborne or sink. Be careful.

Re: 1991 Ranger 320V Deck Extension Ideas? (blackdog21)

We added a front deck extension to our 1981 320 V. Extends from the front livewell back to the back of the single console. We used 3/4" marine grade plywood. We attached the front on hinges to so that it will raise. We riveted aluminum L channel to the rod locker side, and the console edges. The deck rests on the edges at the same height. We added a gas shock to the bottom, with lockdown latches on either side. Carpeted to match. Turned out nice.
