Air Injector on 07 250 Pro XS

Well i brought my boat in for what I thought was the second coil failure in about 5 hrs of running. After a week and a half I finnaly found out that they are changing an air injector. My question is what is that and will it make the motor act as if a coil is bad?

I haven't got the boat back yet so I don't know the whole story. I am just trying to educate myself about this motor.

The direct injection system is different from the older EFI system. On your newer system fuel and air are directly injected into each cylinder. That is what the part in question is for (the air injected in the cylinder to mix with the fuel). On the older EFI system fuel is injected thru the intake manifold and air is sucked in with it thru the butterfly valve plates.

Your fuel and air mixture would be wrong on the cylinder that the injector went bad on, thus drastically altering the efficiency of the power being created in that cylinder ( like a coil not firing would create no power).

Hope it all works out for you!!!

Since the "air injector" (also known as the Direct Injector) injects BOTH air and fuel (it's the final delivery device).... a failed direct injector will result in too little (or NO) fuel being delivered to a cylinder.

That's means that one cylinder is down- with driving symptoms nearly identical to a bad spark plug, plug wire not connected, bad fuel injector, failed coil, etc. etc.

Thought I was saying the same thing Don...just worded a little differently.

Thanks for the information guys. I did finally picked it up from the repair shop yesterday an they changed the injector and said a coil went out on them while the were running it. So they changed all of them to the new part number!!!!!!!

I think I will have to drink a cold one to celebrate!

    Again, I appreciate your help.
