What is the best way to remove the old glue when replacing carpet. I tried a wire brush on a grinder but it loads up with glue and really just moves it around. Any help? Thanks

I used a wire cup brush on a grinder for the bigger areas of mine, and a cup brush on a drill for the tight spots. Then I used some 3M aerosol adhesive remover and a rag to clear the residue. Mine was pretty old though (1988), and most of the glue had failed or was close to failure.
My suggestion is just keep doing what you're doing. It may take 2 or 3 cup brushes to get the job done, depending on how much glue is there. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I scraped mine off with a sharp old wood chisel. Even the gummy stuff rolled up on top of it.

Removed everything, ripped up out the old carpet and scraped & wire brushed. In all it took 9-10 hrs. I used a scraper that uses razor blades, a hand held stainless steel wire brush.
if you have a place outside and all the protective gear. toulene is the way to go ..
gloves, respirator, eye protection, ect otherwise lots of elbow grease...
I've always used a sharp scraper to get the easy stuff up, and then Lowe's sells an adhesive remover (approx. $25/gal.) in the floor section. It's made for linoleum glue and such. Put it down on what you can't get up easily, let it work and then scrape off, it saves alot of time. Just don't get it on any painted surface or you'll have damage.

Super DeGooper! This stuff is great. I got mine at Home Depot. I did as much scraping as I could do with a chisel, paint scrapers, grinders, than i found this stuff!
