    epoxy usage

Generally speaking, there are also two major types of resin - polyester and epoxy. Your old boat-pre 90's- was probably made with polyester, so this is fine for a lot of things. However, if you are working with wood (and there's a lot of wood in some of these vintage 'glass boats), epoxy is far superior. You can actually use epoxy for everything, but I still like polyester because of its lower cost and faster set time. I usually end up using both types in a restoration.

here is also a thing you want to avoid while doing a resto job.. pressure treated plywood while long lasting and tough you can not get an efective-long lasting- bond with either of the 2 products mentioned above. when using plywood in a marine application either marine grade or extrior grade will do -same stff same glue same machine- big differance in price..

remember old boats are like old cars a resto job takes time a bus load of money and a willingness to step in the bilge beer-thats the nasty liquid found under the floors-

    Re: epoxy usage (zooker)

I used pressure treated lumber on my flooring project several years ago. I believe it was the "old" style of pressure treating. I let the wood dry for 6 mos. before I coated it with epoxy resin. So far I have had no issues.

I found a study on the internet that indicated they had good results with treated lumber, as long as the wood was completely dried out before sealing it with epoxy resin.

yeah i have heard the same but when rebuilding a boat who really has the 6 months to wait on plywood to be dryed really.. rather knock it out of marine grade and get er done NOW. that way i can get er moist 6 months sooner..

    Re: (zooker)

I agree , but this was a year and a half project that I could take my time on. Otherwise, things probably would have been done a little differently.

I think the main thing is know matter what type of wood you decide to use, it MUST be dry before you seal it up. Otherwise, you are just asking for trouble down the line.
