Hello. Just discovered this site and it is great.
I am about to begin a restoration project on a 79 Skeeter. I know it needs a new transom. Looks like you separate the hull to get to it. Any advice on the easiest way to go about this?
Thanks.

I would guess that a '79 would be a Wrangler Series Hull. You could start by reading some of the pinned posts at the top of the forum. Also search a product called Rot Doctor on the web. There is some info there that may help you out. If you have any other questions just ask, someone will try to help you out. Good Luck!!

Just rebuilt 1986 Skeeter Starfire.I removed deck from hull and found stringers and flooring rotten, foam floatation water soaked. You may want to make further inspections and evaluate the cost in $ and your available time.
Take off the engine, rub rail, and the screws connecting the top cap and the hull. You may have to take a sawzall and cut the foor out of the boat. I can't remember if the front storage compartment walls are glassed down to the floor or not. If they are, you will have to cut them loose as well.
Once you get everything cut loose, rub rail off, screws out, you will have to look inside the transom area on the inner hull and see if the transom is glassed to the top cap. If it is use a small blade on the sawzall or a cut off tool and cut that glass loose.
Once you get everything off, you can use an overhead hoist and pull the top cap off. Be careful! You can really tear it up if you don't get it all cut loose. Even then, you may have to pull relatively hard to get it all to pop loose. You will hear some normal popping and creaking as it starts to go.
Thanks - That was just what I was asking for. I have it stripped down and I believe it is ready to pull off. I will definitely look closer at those other things you mentioned to look for.
Thanks again.
