What works good on the outside of a outboard motor when trying to detail a boat for future sale? There seems to be milky residue around the midsectionarea.

There are a lot of product available at places like West Marine. Ducky is one that works well. I've also used Tidy Bowl toilet cleaner and it does a good job also. Almost anything that is billed to remove lime or calcium deposits seems to work. Just spray or brush any of these products on, wait a few min and then agitate with a stiff brush. Lots of rinsing and sometimes repeat on stuborn areas. This really helps make your engine look better.
Of the ones you have used---- have any affected the paint on the motor in a negative way???
Of the household products I have used, Tidy-Bowl & lime away, I have never damaged the paint or finish on my motor. I just put it on and rub with a brush. Lots of rinsing.
Simple Green Marine Water Spot Remover works great on that build up on the mid section. I've used it for years without a problem.
Bass Boat Saver works great as well. I had that same problem with the white build up on my Johnson and it took it all off, shined it and made it look new again.
