my wife backed my boat in to a tree last year, dead center on the motor. motor was trimed up without the transum saver. I didn't see any damage to the motor or boat. I continued to run the boat the rest of last fall. every once in a wile I heard a cracking noise.
Today I took the motor and jackplate off, I found cracks at the bottom corners of the jackplate on the transum. this is NOT just a crack on the serface, it gose all the way to the wood core.
should my insurance cover this?

What year is your boat? Post 1988 Rangers have a solid fiberglass transom. If this is the case, you can just fix the outer glass and won't have to recore the transom unless you broke the fiberglass core. I doubt that was broken or you wouldn't have been running the boat without problems. I don't know if insurance will cover it as it wasn't reported to them at the time of the incident.
The boat is a 1987 and yes it went into the wood.

Not to be the beare of bad news! But if the fiberglass was cracked all the way through and allowed water into the wood transom you may have rot proplems later on.

Does that include '88 models or models made after 1988?
Check with the manufacturer but I was told that it included the 88 model year as they were testing it in late 87.

Keep us posted on the insurance issue. I hope things work out.
it is highly unlikely that the exterior glass would have broke had the core been solid.Most insurance companies wont cover unless there was extensive motor damage as well.Good luck
