    How to lift 250xs?

I am changing the jack plate my 250xs is hanging off of. I know you can lift it by the flywheel but getting a lifting hook that will screw into the fly wheel seems to be my problem. Is there any way a guy like me who does his mechanicing himself can get a lifting eye or am I just gonna have to make one somehow. Or is there another way I may not be too afraid to try? LOL!!! Any help would be appreciated.

We keep them in stock.... email to order (email address is in my profile).

This lifting ring threads into the center of the flywheel, lifting the engine in the fashion "it was designed to be lifted".

I used 3 bolts that I had left over from a old tear down and took a little section of chain then threaded the bolts into the 3 holes into the flywheel (if yours has them) hooked my engine puller to the chain and off ya go. I have used this method more times than I care to mention. I dont know the size of the bolts they take a 1/2 inch wrench though.

You can buy a Mercury lift ring on ebay at half the cost of a Mercury unit, and in my opinion better quality also.

The OEM Mercury lifting ring is Part# 904551 ($40.83 Retail Price).

I don't personally like the idea of lifting outboards on pieces of chain and 8mm capscrews.... but that's JMHO....
