    225 Pro XS Warm-Up

I have a 2006 model 225 Pro XS which has been a practically flawless performer. I usually put in and idle until I get 100-110 degrees on the temperature readout especially with the cold water temps.
Today I put in and tried to follow the same procedure but after many minutes (?maybe about 10) the temp only reached 80. Water temp is near 65.

What causes the difference? Should I be acting quickly for a service visit?

Sound like a stuck thermostat or poppet valve. Try a couple quick throttle shots forward and reverse and see if it clears. If not your gonna have to remove the thermostats and see if stuck open. If not then go to poppet.

If your engine will not reach 115-120 degrees, you DO have a thermostat sticking open (likely from debris).

DO NOT accelerate the engine above 1200 RPM under these circumstances.

You will need to have the thermostats removed, clean debris from them, and resinstall. Be sure to recheck for proper engine warmup EACH AND EVERY engine startup.

Don & Others, I called this am and there is a 5 day backlog for service at my local Merc dealership. Are there any special tools or complications for me to remove these thermostats and clean ??
I know i hit some floating wood on Saturday and that is probably the cause.
