Lost GPS Speed reading on Merc Monitor

After testin today and aside from other prob in my other post in Lowrance, noticed the merc monitor doesn't read the speed after I swapped the LCX 28HD for HDS8...I did remove my old LGC 3000 puck and am using my internal antenna in the HDS8...guess I need it (LGC3000) back on to work??..I had no wiring change, just swapped out units..and installed LSS1...still setup on the merc monitor for GPS reading..is something diff or I need to reinstall the LGC3000?..thanks in advance...

Do you have the V4 or V5 MercMonitor? (Look for version number at keyup).

Are you wired in on NMEA-0183 for GPS speed?

You'll have to check the specs on your new unit's NMEA-0183 output "version". The MercMonitor is compatible with versions 2.0 and EARLIER (anything above 2.0 is likely incompatible).

NMEA-0183 outputs need to be set to 4800 Baud. Look through the sheet you posted instructions from.... it specifies several "strings" that may need to be disabled or enabled (and is accurate).

The NMEA-0183 version information may be in your owner's manual... or you may have to contact the manufacturer to determine the version information.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Ranger Z522 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">book shows a nmea 0183 screen...has several nmea 0183 output "sentences" to change to on or off (which all are off)...under gps heading, GLL, RMC and RMB,APB,GGA,GSA and GSV,BWC....</TD></TR></TABLE>

You'll want "GLL", "GGA", and "GSA and GSV" to be checked (ON) and all the others unchecked.

You may need to select "RS232" (and should be on COM1).
