    tach wrong or what?

took the new to me 2003 champion 206 dc out of a ride. It has a 250xs with a tempst pro 25 pitch prop. before I no it I'm at 7200 rpm. no beep no nothing. get it backed down to 5800rpm. still have half a trottle left. any idea's whats up???????????????????????? I think the tach is wrong. I will be takeing it to the dealer monday and have it checked out. I would have thought the guardian would have kicked in and shut it down once I went over 5800rpm.

    could be:

look at the back of the tach, check and make sure it's set to "6P" on the little dial, also, turn that dial back and forth a couple times resetting it back to 6P.

or, the 25 tempest could have a spun hub, it's a bit small for your motor but I don't think it's that small.

You were DEFINTELY not turning those RPM's.... the ECM/PCM would have set Engine Guardian long before you reached that point!

As described above- check the "pot adjustment switch" on the back of the tach.

BTW.... a Smartcraft Instrument will give you a "you can take that to the bank" accurate RPM reading.

I'll give it a look. I'm taking it back where I bought Monday. There were a few other issues that they will be fixing. Thank you for the tip.

took it to the shop this morning. they found that one of the prop blades wasn't cupped right? They will fix it or put on a new prop. They will be checking the tach an getting it fixed. few other things need fixed. Nameoki Village is really taking care of the problems. I had been told that there customer service is second to none. So far I belive it.
