Latest on Mike

Mike was brought back into Dana Farber on Wed.
He was doing fine and getting stronger until what is called host-graft disease showed it's ugly head.We knew going in there was a pretty fair chance of this happening.
Host-graft disease in when the new immune system that is given to the patient through bone marrow does not recognize the patients body and starts to attack it.
The liver and the intestines are the first to be attacked and can be fatal.

The doctors have tried to control the host-graft on an out-patient basis but it was not working.
So they have brought him in where they can try some treatments to control it.
Mike is pretty depressed right now and the rash is driving him crazy.
The rash is one of the afflictions of host-graft.
I will talk to him tomorrow to see how things are going and make updates.
Prayers are in order.

It was nice talking with you Tyler. The topic could have been a little more cheerful but.... Please let Mike know that we are all praying for him. I know he's a fighter. Let's get some prayers to him and get him through this set back.

I talked with him a few minutes ago,he sounds pretty good.
His attitude has improved over a couple days ago.
It sounds like the host-graft has been halted somewhat.
Now the meds need some time to start working and overcoming it.
He's looking forward to our visit tomorrow Mac.

He likes hearing from people as hanging around in there is no fun.

Tyler and I went down to MA (Dana Farber) to visit Mike today. We got there about 10:45 and we stayed for about 2 hours. He looked about the same as the last time I saw him but from what I had heard he had made a lot of improvements until this set back. It was nice to be able to sit and talk with him this time. We got to talking about the different lakes in the area and how well and not so well we did on this lake or that lake. Next time I talk with him I'll be sure to ask what type of lure he prefers and what does he use for tackle. Talking fishing with Mike seem to wake him up a bit. (I know....most of us wake up when we are on this topic. )
I understand that he still has a long road ahead of him.

Mike you are thought of a lot and prayers are sent to you daily. My co-workers ask how you are doing as well. Keep your spirits high. If I can pull it off, I'll come down next week to visit you again. I'm sure I'll be able to drag Tyler down again.

BTW...Thanks Tyler for taking me down there this morning.

Let me know when you want to go again.
People where I work ask me daily how he is doing as most of them worked with him in the same shop a few years ago.
They are all praying for Mike too.

I talked to Mike a few minutes ago.
The meds are starting to help his skin rash and he's feeling a little better.
He' starting to develop a little bit of an appetite again even though he's not allowed to eat.
My wife and I are are going to try and make it down Sun. for a visit.

Does he sound upbeat? Tell Mike he needs to get home soon. I'm not at 100% or I'd say a visit this weekend was a possiblility. I'm feeling a lot better though.

He does sound more upbeat Mac.
He will be in there until he is satisfied things are under control.
I think it will take a while.
He thinks the doctors let him out too early after the transplant.
He has vowed this won't happen again.

It's very important witch I'm sure he knows, that he doe's not let them send him home to early.it happens all the time.
