    Seeing oil

Im seeing oil comming from the weep holes right above the lower unit were it connects with the four bolts to the center section. The only time i noticed it is right after pulling the boat out of the water. Havent noticed a oil slick or anything of that nature. I did run it in a big tub the other day for bout 20 minutes just curious if that might be what im seeing running out of the seep holes. Been home for over an hour and no leak. Is this a problem?

Yepper, oil coming out and water is getting in, bad thing. I suggest pulling the foot off and see where it is coming from. Mr. Don should ring in and tell you what more to look at.

Recommend (as a starting point) that you drain the gear lubricant into a clean container (inspect for any water or milky appearance).

Then.... pressure/vaccum test the gearcase to check for leaks.

Don't forget to check the "seals" on the drain plug and the vent plug!

    ME TOO....
i've got a 1996 225 EFI....we replaced lower unit oil last summer...since then, twice, when i was wiping boat down after running, i noticed that out of the bottom wholes on one side there was just a small trace of gear oil coming out...wiped off, and didnt see any more...took top cap screw out and dipped a white tie strap in and within 1 inch i found oil....took bottom cap out and oil starting coming out, no water....
did i over fill??? what should i do?

Could the oil be from the exhaust?? I idle lots on the lakes I fish and had what soulds like the same problem last year. I called my mechanic and he told me that if I idle lots the oil builds up in the case, when you pull out then it tends to drain from those weep holes. I never see the problem when I go to lakes that I can get up and run on, but always on my idle only lakes. I have a 1996 225 efi.

POSSIBLE.... but I'd still be getting it checked! Could potentially save you the cost of a gearcase.
