Mercury smartcraft gages??????????

My gages look old on the face and such thought about changing them out. are they all the same??????? i see different part numbers on different websites most are the same with the last 3 a letter and 2 numbers being different. i ask because i have seen some way cheaper than others. asnt sure if there were different ones for different motors.

A good place to start with this question would be to identify "which" Smarcraft Gauge we are talking about (System Monitor, System Tach and Speed, MercMonitor, System View, Vessel View, or a System Link). Then there's the older "Smart Tach & Speed" gauges (which are NLA, and though similar to Smartcraft, they really aren't).

As new versions of the software are released, the part numbers change. Although MOST all versions are backwards compatible, you do need to be careful... there are a few instances where "mismatched" versions can cause problems.

Of course, the latest versions always have the latest features (and usually the most stable programming).

Your best bet is to buy these in a "System Tach and Speed Kit" (rather than separate gauges). This helps to ensure that you're getting two instruments of the same "version".

What year is your engine (or better yet, the serial number)?

Versions 4.0 and above offer "expanded fault information" for some common faults, when used with most later production (2007->) engines (but shouldn't be intermixed with prior versions).
