    New 250 SHO vibration

Just repowered my 2013 ranger Z520 with a new SHO. The motor idles smooth but when I put it in gear and touch the throttle it has a vibration. It’s the worst at around 1000 rpms. When I get on plane I don’t feel anything. I can idle with just a little throttle and pull it into neutral and the vibration stops. I have a Yamaha 25 T1 prop on it and tried a new Yamaha 25T2 and didn’t make any difference. Thanks for any help this is going to drive me crazy with everything rattling in the boat.

I just repowered from a 2014 250 SHO to a 2025 250 SHO last week. I have exactly same thing. I just figured it was some changes they made with programing or something. I guess I was right.

complaints go all the way back to 1983. First model year for Yamaha in US market was 1984. Cause for vibration is unloaded. Clutch dog at very slow speeds clutch dog and forward gear not locked into position very normal, common, and a true Yamaha trademark. several attempts and modifications have been utilized however, futile. As soon as a small amount of throttle is utilized it sounds much better. be careful enjoy your new motor. She’s a fast one.

I laid on the back deck with it idling in gear and gave it throttle with my hand and it’s definitely coming from mid to lower unit. Motor sounds fine.

Funny this came up. I just repowered last week with a brand new 200 SHO on my 2002 Ranger 619 and noticed that when I just put it in gear it sounds kind of awful. At idle fine, and apply just a touch of throttle and it sounds fine again. Looks like it's just the way they are.

Asked dealer and he said the same, that's just kind of the way they are at super low speeds.

Just in gear is much lower rpm than the Opti I took off.

Currently have a 17" Reliant on there. Will have to spend time propping correctly as I remove lead acid and switch to lithium.

I did not have this vibration on my 2014 250 SHO on the same boat that's the interesting thing. But I agree that in gear (new 2025 SHO) without gears being loaded it chatters. Like I said my other SHO didn't do it.

wait til you dont hold the key long enough when starting it and it doesnt turn over. next key bump sounds like its going to explode, then it is fine.
