Table Rock is pretty tough right now. Some deep fish being caught, but you have to work
at it. Stockton, on the other hand, is on fire right now. They are everywhere and hitting
on about anything. I know......Table Rock is a "real bass lake". Its bigger and more fun
to fish, when they are biting. Its 2 hours further north, but its worth the trip. I'd go to
Stockton.
hey Steve what ya been finding at Stockton im gonna be up there this weekend for 3 days
Luke.....there is an incredible early morning bite up at Stockton right now. I mean early.
Lasts until 9:00am or so. You can still catch them after 9:00 they just don't hit as fast.
Last Thursday I caught 4 fish on my first 5 casts. It has been several years since I have
seen them bite that fast. I caught most of mine on a little custom painted crankbait. It
was unbelievable. A variety of small crankbaits will work, just experiment a little. Also
caught several on a 5" Chompers Watermelon/Red twin tail skirted grub. My neighbor,
Paul, caught several NICE fish on a 3/8oz Eakins jig, peanut butter and jelly, with a
cinnamon/grape jelly chompers trailer. The early morning crankbait bite is fast and furious but mostly short fish, right on the bank. Then when the sun starts to get hot, hit
the same banks a little deeper with the jigs and grubs. Last week we had about 35 fish
in the boat by 8:30am. It took us until about 1:30pm to catch another 30 or so. Good
luck. I plan on going back this Saturday with my buddy Andy and his brother. We'll be
fishing out of Andy's '89 Stratos. We'll either put in at Masters or at Cedar Ridge.
Look at the "Stockton" forum below to see some of the fish we caught Thursday!!!
we are camped at Masters.....if ya see a Red and White Champion runnin around with a Wired2Fish.com logo on the front of the boat and a Yamaha on the back thats me.......stop and say hey dont know how much ill be able to get out and fish with both the kids there this weekend but im hopein to get out some during the mornings hopefully
If the kids are little, you should be able to catch a ton of fish before they ever even get
out of bed. 6:00am to 8:15am is prime time for sure. If I'm anywhere in the neighborhood, I'll try to drop by. Not 100% sure I'm gonna get to go, but its lookin' pretty good at this point.
FlippinUpwin...............sorry about the hijack!!
Its ok i just wanted to see what was going on down at the rock. Was down there the end of July and wacked some real nice fice down by the 86 bridge.I actually fished in long creek on the points at night with a Omega PBJ football jig![]()
Oh yeh.........Long Creek is a great place to night fish on Table Rock. I caught a monster
bass one night, on that bluff end bank just south of where the Polynesian Princess used to be docked.
I threw a 13" plumb worm with a big ribbon tail right against the bluff. I pulled
it ever so slowly until I felt it begin to fall. I stood up and leaned forward so the worm
would flutter straight down. It had fallen about 3' when I got the most bone jarring hit I
have ever had. I was already leaning forward so I reeled down and ripped it back as hard as I could. She immediately started taking drag and the fight was on. After what
seemed like forever, I finally got her to the boat. My buddy Andy dipped her for me. She weighed 7-14 on my old de-liar scale. I'll never forget that ferocious bite. It was unbelievable.
If you decide to go on to Table Rock, Long Creek would be a great place to start.
Anybody night fishing cape fair area lately? Have been slackin off for a few weeks, Thinkin about goin this weekend and lookin for a report.

I haven't been, but I heard that it IS starting to pick up some. Dark colored LONG worms, peanut butter and jelly Eakins jigs, and salt craws.
I've heard a few good reports on buzzbaits up the river arms. Aside from that a football jig or carolina rig on flat gravel points.
Went to cape fair last night, The fish were really biting good! Put in at about 10:00 pm and left about 5:30 this morning , Lost count of how many fish we caught but it was the best night this year for me, biggest fish was about 4 lbs. All on plastics.

All right Toby!!! That's the kind of reports we like to hear. Keep up the good work.
Similar question....
I am going to be fishing Table rock in late October. This is the 1st time I will have fished it in several years - I usually stick to LKOZ. Anyone have any advice on what patterns I might expect and what lures to be throwing?

Late October can be wide open on Table Rock. Some guys will still be drop shottin' deep.
Last year they never did go into the usual "fall patterns". It was really weird. Hopefully
this year they'll do their thing and come on into the coves after the bait fish. If they do,
a strong spinnerbait pattern will develop. Look for, and fish, the windiest banks you can
find. If its calm, swimming a grub can be very effective, especially for the smallies. A
crank bait ripped over rock piles and shallow points can also be good. Late October can
fish like April. Fish will be shallow and feeding heavily in anticipation of the winter slow
down. They are keying on baitfish and the bite will usually be VERY aggressive. They are in the feeding mode and not thinking about the spawn. So come on down and bring
your topwater baits, spinnerbaits, cranks, and some hula grubs and you should be
covered.
Deadly secret for fall...Don't forget the vetical bite from spoons if their into the shad in the middle of a cove and not coming up on the banks. They may or may not push the shad to the surface, sonar is what you'll need to use to see them scatter the pods.

Hey Larry.....good to hear from you again. Have you been doing any fishin' lately???
August has been a little tough but overall its been a great year at Table Rock. Hope
you're catchin' some....
Caught the tar out of the fish between 13 and 14 7/8" in the pockets way up the James during the day on shakeyhead. Went through a bag of Zooms. Blanked at weigh-in.
